Test your iOS app with Testflight

Before submitting your app to the Apple App Store you probably want to test it first. Apple allows two methods:

  • Internal testing. This is generally the easiest way. You can add up to 25 users, but they must also have access to your iTunes Connect account. This means that you can only add trusted people as they will have access to your publishing account. It does not require manual review by Apple.
  • External testing. This allows you to add up to 1000 external testers. You can add them by just their e-mail address and will automatically receive an invitation. This method requires review by Apple for each new version, which typically takes a day to process.

Prerequisites#

We assume that you have set up an Apple Developer account and have connected it to UDO Dashboard.

Adding Internal Testers#

  1. Go to your UDO Dashboard to the iOS page. Now click Pushlish To at the top of the page, and choose Testflight to make your first test build. You can skip to step 3 if you have already done so.

  2. Wait for the build to be completed. You will receive an e-mail from us once completed.. This typically takes about 45 minutes.

  3. Then go to your iTunes Connect page with your Apple Developer credentials: https://itunesconnect.apple.com

  4. Once signed in, click on Apps. Then choose your UDO app icon. At the top of this page, click Testflight.

  5. Go to iTunes Connect Users. This is where you can add up to 25 people that also have access to your iTunes Connect account. If you’d like to add external testers, go to the External Testers chapter. They can receive test builds without review by Apple. Click the Plus button and choose the users you’d like to add.

  6. Testers will receive an e-mail from Apple describing how to start testing.

Next time you can just repeat step 1. They will automatically appear on all users that are added to the iTunes Connect Users.

Adding External Testers#

You can also add up to 1000 external testers.

  1. Go to your UDO Dashboard to the iOS page. Now click Pushlish To at the top of the page, and choose Testflight to make your first test build. You can skip to step 3 if you have already done so.

  2. Wait for the build to be completed. You will receive an e-mail once completed.

  3. Then go to your iTunes Connect page with your Apple Developer credentials: https://itunesconnect.apple.com

  4. Once signed in, click on Apps. Then choose your UDO app icon. At the top of this page, click Testflight.

  5. Go to Test Information. Complete this form first. Then click the Save button at the top.

  6. Go to iOS under Builds on the top left. This will show the build you just made, most probably the first. You might need to wait a bit longer if you don’t see it yet.

  7. Click Plus on Individual tester and provide the name and e-mail of your tester. After adding, the tester will receive an e-mail containing instructions how to test the app.
